Congregation B’nai Israel offers many ways to observe Shabbat on Saturday mornings, whether traditional services in our Main Sanctuary, educational and fun services for teens and young children/families, alternative meditative and musical services, or Torah and text study. Please join us!

Shabbat Morning Services

Join us in the Main Sanctuary starting at 9:30 am every Shabbat morning for traditional prayers and a triennial Torah reading. The Saturday morning service at Congregation B’nai Israel is distinctive for grassroots participation. Each year over 180 different people read Torah and many participate in leading prayers.  At the same time, our clergy are actively involved creating an engaging, uplifting service.

Junior Congregation

Led by Carl Cedar, Junior Congregation was created especially for children 2nd through 5th grade and takes place 10:30 – 11:45 am the 3rd Shabbat of the month.  Everyone has a role in making this musical, interactive service come to life!  Spirited guitar and beautiful melodies enrich the prayer experience not only for kids, but for parents as well. A great preparation for b’nai mitzvah. Bring your classmates and friends – the more the merrier. And there’s always a sweet treat at the end!

Bite Size Shabbat

Led by Cantor Amy Robinson Katz for preschool age children and their parents, Bite Size Shabbat takes place 10:50am-11:20am on select Shabbats of the month. Help your little ones discover the joy of Shabbat! At the end of the program the Bite Size Shabbat group will join the congregation in the Sanctuary. CBI Coastal Shabbat Morning Service

Our alternative, musical, and informal Shabbat gathering at University Community Park,1 Beech Tree Lane in Irvine, the 1st Shabbat of every month. The service is followed by a potluck Kiddush lunch. RSVP is needed for those joining us for lunch. Check the Calendar for dates. Everyone is invited to attend.

YISM’CHU Musical Service

An instrumental musical Shabbat morning service developed by Cantor Amy Robinson Katz that takes place in the main sanctuary the second Shabbat of the month. Led by Cantor Amy and other professional musicians including Carl Cedar. Check our Calendar for dates. Everyone is invited to attend.

Prayersong Sacred Chant and Meditation with Cantor Amy Robinson 

Join Cantor Amy Robinson,  in a meditative chanting circle on selected Saturday mornings from 9:30 – 10:30 am in the Family Life Center. Drawing upon the music of Taizé, Rabbi Shefa Gold, Yuval Ron, Carlebach and her own inspirations, Cantor Amy leads the circle in song and silence, allowing sacred passages and melodies to open the heart. Everyone is invited to attend.

Parashat  Hashavuah Torah Study

Study the week’s Torah portion every  Saturday before services, at 8:30 am in the Social Hall. Each week a different lay leader prepares and leads the discussion. Everyone is invited to attend.

“Digging Into the Bible”
