Sandy Klein, Executive Director

Sandy Klein has been the Executive Director at Congregation B’nai Israel since 2001.  Sandy was born and raised in Schenectady, New York and is a graduate of State University of New York at Albany where she earned her Bachelors in Social Work and Syracuse University where she earned master’s degrees in Social Work (MSW) and Public Administration (MPA).  Sandy worked for the Department of Health and Human Services  in Washington, DC; the Veterans Administration and Jewish Community Center in Houston, TX and the YMCA in Orange County, CA before joining the staff at CBI as their first Executive Director.

Sandy is married to Robert Klein and has two grown children, Rachel and Adam.

Lisa Heller – Director, Child Development Center

Director Lisa Heller has had a long and distinguished career in the field of Jewish Early Childhood Education.  She is a graduate of George Washington University, completed Early Childhood Education from Fullerton College and has a Certification from The Parent Coaching Institute /Seattle Pacific University.  She has been a director of Jewish Early Childhood Programs since 1980 and the Director of Congregation B’nai Israel Child Development Center since 1996, and honored as a Shining Star by CBI in 2009.

Lisa believes in professional growth and the need to be a lifelong learner.  She has been a member of NAEYC (National Association of the Education of Young Children) since 1977. Lisa is committed to bringing the young families at the Preschool together into the warmth of our school family, inspiring them to be active learners and have  a positive experience with their young child’s education.  Her commitment to the environment of the preschool, creating stimulating, nurturing spaces where children learn through play, has been her focus.

Outside of the preschool, Lisa is passionate about her family, reading, organic gardening, cooking and eating.  She has been married to Jonathan since 1975 and together they are parents to 3 grown sons, 2 daughters-in-laws and a grandson.

Barbara Sherman – Youth Director

Barbara has been a Youth Advisor/Director for 27 years. Her first seven years were at Temple Beth Emet in Anaheim and she has been with Congregation B’nai Israel for the past 20 years.

Over the years, the Chapter and Barbara have won many awards and have had many Cabinet members as well.

Barbara is married, has two daughters, two sons-in-law, and three grandchildren.

Debbie Hebron – Executive Assistant

Debbie was born and raised in New York, where she and her family were active members of Temple Beth Shalom.  Years later, her father was promoted causing the family to move to Tarzana, California, where they were members of Temple Judea and finally wound up in Newport Beach, California.

Debbie has an Associate of Arts degree and Certificates in Medical Assisting and Venipuncture. Debbie has worked in doctor’s offices for 7 years, in a high end retail Jewelry store for 7 years, she worked for the World Shoe Association (tradeshow) for over 4 years, been an Executive Assistant for a mortgage company which led her to working in the CBI office where there’s never a dull moment.

Debbie is happily married to her husband and best friend, Ofer, whom she met while Israeli Dancing, and together they are raising their son, Ravid.

Debbie looks forward to meeting all of you who stop by the CBI office. Come by and say hello sometime!

Helene Coulter – Bookkeeper

Helene worked in the Religious School for 10 years and was a “professional volunteer” at CBI before working in the CBI office.
