Cantor Tilchin
received her Masters of Sacred Music and Diploma of
Hazzan from the Jewish Theological Seminary in May 2000.
For the last two years she has continued her studies
in the rabbinical program at JTS. Prior to coming to
B'nai Israel, Cantor Tilchin served as hazzan of Congregation
Sons of Israel in Upper Nyack, New York. "As a teacher,
there is no greater privilege than to be part of a community
that wants to learn, and B'nai Israel has always made
learning a priority," said Cantor Tilchin. "I look forward
to working with Rabbi Elie Spitz and feel honored to
be a member of this gifted community."
While at the Seminary Cantor Tilchin was assistant to
the dean of the H.L. Miller Cantorial School, and editor
and musical consultant for "Remember Us Unto Life,"
a High Holiday special airing nationally on public radio
stations. She was also founding director of the award-winning
Kesher program at Camp Ramah in the Poconos, which provided
a unique camping opportunity for Jewish deaf children
and their families.
Cantor Marcia Tilchin and her husband Scott Spitzer
recently moved to Tustin from New York City with their
two children. Scott Spitzer is a professor of political
science and will be teaching at both Chapman University
and Cal State Fullerton. Prior to moving to California
he was a professor at Seton Hall University in New Jersey.
